Pierz Pioneers vs Minnewaska Area Lakers Football 2023

The Pioneers shut out the Lakers 35-0 in Week 3 to improve to 2-1.  QB Kyle Winscher ran for 2 scores and threw for another to Max Barclay.  Reese Young and Liam Hennessy also ran for touchdowns in the Pioneers second straight win.

Pierz Pioneers vs Pequot Lakes Patriots Volleyball 2023

The Pioneers lost 3-0 to the #1 ranked team in Class AA as the Patriots downed Pierz by scores of 9-25, 17-25 and 10-25.

Pierz Pioneers vs Royalton Royals Volleyball 2023

The Pioneers lost 3-1 to the Royals on Parents Night for Pierz.  Scores were: 17-25, 22-25, 25-18 and 16-25.

Pierz Pioneers vs Rockford Rockets Football 2023

The Pioneers beat the Rockets 26-14 in their Home Opener as Liam Hennessy ran for 2 touchdowns and added a pick-six in the secondary while Kyle Winscher found Caden Knutson for a 4th quarter 10-yard touchdown pass in the Pioneers first win of the season.

Pierz Pioneers vs St. Cloud Cathedral Crusaders Volleyball 2023

The Pioneers dropped an exciting 5-set match at the MAC to the Crusaders by scores of 25-23, 14-25, 11-25, 26-24, 10-15.

Pierz Pioneers vs Aitkin Gobblers Volleyball 2023

The Pioneers celebrated their home opener with a 3-0 sweep over the Gobblers on the first day back to school by scores of 25-22, 25-18 and 25-9.  The Pioneers served at a 91% clip with 11 aces.

Pierz Pioneers at Little Falls Flyers Football 2023

In a first-ever match-up in Football between the two schools, the Flyers posted a 30-16 win over the Pioneers in the season opener for both teams.  Reese Young ran for 124 yards and both touchdowns for Pierz while Nathan Nash and Kyle Winscher ran for 2-point conversions.  Flyers QB Gavin Anderson threw for 213 yards and 3 touchdowns, finding Issac Olson for scoring plays of 64 and 42 yards and Hank LeClair had a 49 yard scoring catch and also ran for a 5 yard touchdown.  Gabe Shanoff added a 25 yard field goal in the 4th quarter for the final points in the game.

Pierz Pioneers at Osakis Silverstreaks Volleyball 2023

The Pioneers went to Osakis and dropped a 3-0 match to the Silverstreaks by scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-7.   

Buckman Billygoats vs Bird Island Bullfrogs Class C State Tournament 2023

The Billygoats season came to an end in the Class C Semifinals with a 7-1 loss to Bird Island in Litchfield on a blisteringly hot Sunday afternoon on Labor Day weekend.  Matt Kummet provided the only run for Buckman with a solo Homer in the top of the 2nd.   Buckman managed 8 hits in the game with Ben Thoma going 2-4, Matt Kummet was 2-4 with his solo Homer, Noah Boser was 1-3 with a double and an intentional walk, and Lane Girtz, Jack Suska and Aaron Weber all went 1-4 in the loss.

Buckman Billygoats vs Nisswa Lightning Class C State Tournament 2023

The Billygoats beat the Lightning 7-2 in Litchfield in a State Quarterfinal game, in  a rematch of the 2022 Class C State Title game.  Buckman jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the 1st on a wild pitch, a bases-loaded walk to Noah Boser, a sacrifice fly by Aaron Weber and an rbi single by Matt Kummet. Nisswa made it 4-1 in the 6th on an rbi single by Nate DeChaine.  In the top of the 8th, Buckman scored another 3 runs on a 2-run single by Ben Thoma and a sacrifice fly by Matt Kummet to make it 7-1.  Kody Ruedisili smashed a solo Homer for the Lightning in the 8th to make it 7-2 and that would turn out to be the final score as Drew Beier, a draftee from Foley, went the distance for Buckman, striking out 9 to advance the Billygoats to the Class C Semifinals while Nisswa's season came to an end with the loss.
