Fort Ripley Rebels vs Freeport Black Sox Region 8C 2023

The Black Sox eliminated the Rebels from the Region 8C Tournament with a 14-3 win in 7 innings on Sunday night in Avon.  With Freeport holding a 3-2 lead after 5 innings, Freeport scored 11 runs in the top of the 6th on 3 hits, 8 walks, a hit batter, a sacrifice fly and a Fort Ripley error to go ahead 14-2.  The Rebels would get 1 run in the bottom of the 7th but Freeport was able to end the game early and eliminate the Rebels. The Black Sox advance to a State Play-In game next Saturday in Pierz against St. Stephen.

Nisswa Lightning vs Avon Lakers Region 8C 2023

The defending State Champion Lightning earned the right to defend their title with a 2-0 win over the Lakers on Sunday in Avon.  Nate DeChaine was outstanding on the mound for Nisswa, throwing a Complete Game 3-hit shutout. Nisswa scored in the 2nd on Nate DeChaine's rbi single plating Kody Ruedisili, then added their other run in the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Wittwer. The win moved Nisswa into the Region 8C Championship game against Buckman, while Avon will play in a State Play-In game against Foley on Saturday in Pierz,

Buckman Billygoats vs St. Stephen Steves Region 8C 2023

The Billygoats became the first team to clinch a spot in the State Tournament with a 5-4,, 10-inning victory over the Steves on Sunday afternoon in Avon.  Bo Schmitz led off the game with a homer to give St. Stephen an early lead but the Goats tied it in the bottom of the 1st on a Noah Boser run-scoring ground out.  Buckman took a lead in the 4th on a Matt Tautges rbi single and a Lane Girtz rbi double to make it 3-1 after 4.  In the 5th. Noah Boser drove in his 2nd run of the game with a single to make it 4-1. But St. Stephen rallied to tie the game in the top of the 8th on a sacrifice fly by Cole Fuecker and rbi singles by Jack Greenlun and Logan Siemers.  In the bottom of the 10th, Lane Girtz doubled with 1 out, then scored on a smash to 1st by Noah Boser, with Girtz scoring from 2nd when the ball deflected into center field and give Buckman the 5-4 win.

Foley Lumber Jacks vs St. Wendel Saints Region 8C 2023

The Lumber Jacks stayed alive in the Tournament with an 8-2 win over the Saints in a Sunday morning elimination game in Avon.  Brandon Dickmann homered in the 1st and Tanner Reis scored on a passed ball in the 2nd to put St. Wendel ahead 2-0, but Noah Winkelman's solo homer in the bottom of the 2nd made it 2-1, then Foley tied it at 2-2 in the 5th on a St. Wendel throwing error.  Mitch Keeler's rbi single in the 6th gave Foley a 3-2 lead and Charles Hackett scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-2 after 6.  Dan Marod belted a 2-run homer in the 7th and Drew Beier added a 1-run single in the 8th to finish off the scoring and advance Foley to the 2nd weekend State Play-In game in Pierz while the loss eliminated St. Wendel.

Nisswa Lightning vs Freeport Black Sox Region 8C 2023

The Lightning beat the Black Sox 6-5 in 11 innings in the final game of the opening day of the Region 8C Tournament in Avon. Trailing 5-0 got to the 8th, The Black Sox pulled off a big rally to tie the game, with the big hit coming off the bat of Cody Rose, a bases-clearing, game-tying double.  The game remained tied at 5-5 until the bottom of the 11th when Kody Ruedisili belted a walk-off Homer to right to give Nisswa the 6-5 win.

Avon Lakers vs Fort Ripley Rebels Region 8C 2023

The Lakers beat the Rebels 6-2 in the 3rd game of the Region 8C Tournament in Avon as Dominic Austing threw a Complete Game with 12 strikeouts. The Rebels scored 2 in the top of the 1st on a ground out by Tom Fairbanks and an rbi double by Eli Roberts but Austing blanked Fort Ripley the rest of the way.  Avon got 1 in the 1st on an rbi single by Elian Mezquita, then Joe Dolan put the Lakers ahead with a 2-run double in the 2nd.  A pair of Fort Ripley errors in the same inning allowed another 3 runs to score to make it 6-2,

St. Wendel Saints vs Buckman Billygoats Region 8C 2023

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a pair of rbi singles by Logan Harren in the 3rd and the 6th.  The Billygoats got things turned around in the bottom of the 7th when Shawn Lanners came off the bench to deliver a big 3-run, pinch-hit Homer to put Buckman up 3-2, then later in the inning, both Noah Boser and Ben Thoma added rbi singles to give Buckman a 5-2 lead after 7, In the bottom of the 8th, the Goats tacked on 3 more on a Lanners rbi double and a 2-run single by Lane Girtz for the 8-2 Buckman win.

Foley Lumber Jacks vs St, Stephen Steves Region 8C 2023

The Steves rallied for a 4-1 win over the Lumber Jacks with a 4-run bottom of the 8th inning in Avon as the Region 8C Tournament got underway. Blake Guggenberger's 2-out, 2-run single put the Steves ahead, then a bunt by Derek Durant and a Foley error brought home the other 2 runs for St. Stephen.  

Pierz Pioneers vs Staples-Motley Cardinals Section 6AA Baseball 2023

The Pioneers beat the Cardinals 10-0 in 6 innings in a Section 6AA Playoff game at Faber Field in St. Cloud.  Max Barclay threw a 3-hit shutout with 8 strikeouts while the offense collected 10 hits off Cardinals pitching.  Max Barclay was 2-3 with a double, a sacrifice fly and drove in 4 runs, Reese Young was 2-3 with a triple, Chase Becker was 2-3 with 3 rbi's, Joey Stuckmayer was 1-3 and Weston Woitalla was 1-3 with his team-leading 8th double of the season.

Pierz Lakers vs Fort Ripley Rebels Playoffs 2023

The Rebels beat the Lakers 4-2 in the first round of the North/East Division Playoffs.  Bryce Flanagan put the Rebels on the board with a 2nd inning rbi single. Alex Haapajoki singled to drive in Brett Kramer in the 3rd to make it 2-0. A Kolten Happke sacrifice fly in the top of the 4th cut the Rebels lead to 2-1, but in the 6th, Bill Sather's rbi double made it 3-1.  Pierz got a bases-loaded walk to Peter Herman in the 7th to make it 3-2 but Pierz left the bases loaded in the inning.  Fort Ripley added 1 more run in the 8th when Josh Hukriede was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it 4-2.  Hukriede was injured on the play and would not return.  Pierz had their chances, stranding a total of 17 runners in the game.  Bryce Flanagan worked 6.1 innings to get the Win with Brett Kramer finishing the game for the Save.
